We are deeply saddened by the death of Sir Tom Stoppard and extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones. A longtime supporter of English PEN and the recipient of the 2013 PEN Pinter Prize, he leaves an immense and enduring legacy through his contributions to literature, the arts, and the defence of free expression.
As an Honorary Vice President of English PEN, Stoppard embodied what PEN stands for: courage, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to the freedom to write and the freedom to read. We mourn his loss and remain profoundly grateful for his solidarity, generosity, and steadfast support over so many years.
